Meet our Angels

What Is Marsha's Angels?
Marsha's Angels is a scholarship fund honoring the memory of Marsha Yarnell and her more than 30 years of nursing. For her last 22 years, Marsha was a labor & delivery nurse in Wichita, Kansas. She was an inspiration to family, friends and co-workers.

Who Are We Looking For?
Successful scholarship applicants will demonstrate the desire to share Marsha's love for helping others and for quality patient care.

What Are The Qualifications?
Qualified students
will have completed all prerequisites and be ready to enter the first year of an accredited two-year nursing program (RN). Students in a four-year BSN program will have completed the first two years of general studies and pre-requisites and be ready for the final two years of nurses training (RN). A student who will be taking part in a qualified program in the fall of 2025 may submit an application as soon acceptance to that program has been established. Applicants eligible for the 2025 scholarship will be graduating in the spring of 2027

Where Should You Live?
Applicants living in Sedgwick County, Kansas or one of the surrounding counties may use the scholarship to attend an accredited nursing program anywhere in the United States. Those living elsewhere in the United States may use the scholarship to attend an accredited nursing program in Sedgwick County, Kansas or one of the surrounding counties or
St. Luke's College of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri, Marsha's alma mater.

How Long Does It Last?
After receiving a scholarship for the first year of a nursing program, a student who maintains qualifications for that program will be eligible to receive a scholarship for the second year.

How Big Is The Scholarship?
The amount of the scholarship depends the funds available. So far we have had the opportunity to award over $80,000.00 in scholarships. Currently, our scholarship is $2000.00 per year for each student.

What If You're Changing Careers?
All qualified students, regardless of age, are encouraged to apply. (Our Angel No. 3, Melissa, was in accounting for 25 years before choosing a nursing career; Angel No. 4, Alyson, chose a career in nursing after having obtained a degree in business and working in an office management position for several years.)

How Do You Apply?
You can access the form by using the link below. Applications may be submitted as early as January 1st with a deadline of June 30th when the applicant has been accepted to their chosen schools program.

(While we would like to do more, our resources allow us to provide scholarships for only the "fall-spring" semester format of a traditional two-year program. Students attending on a "spring-fall" schedule or those attending an accelerated program do not qualify.)

If you know of someone who will be preparing to enter a qualified program in the fall of 2025, please pass along information about Marsha's Angels.

If you have any questions, please email the Committee Chairman.

Selection process: Qualified applications, after having identifying information redacted and an application number assigned, are forwarded to the selection committee. Selection committee members select their top three candidates. That information is forwarded to the committee treasurer, who is not a member of the selection committee. The treasurer tallies the votes and forwards the results, by number only, to the committee chairman, who also is not a member of the selection committee. The committee chairman matches the winning number to the corresponding application to find the name of the newest scholarship Angel. Neither the tresurer nor the selecton committee members are provided the names of any applicants until after the selection process is complete.

If you we can't provide you with a scholarship, perhaps we can pass on some pointers for achieving success in your training.
